Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, it is drained by the Hérault, the ruisseau des Courredous and various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage, a Natura 2000 site (the cours inférieur de l'Hérault) and three natural zones of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
Guillaume II, Viscount of Béziers, d'Agde, seigneur de Florensac, in his will of 990, mentions a tower situated in the village. Florensac then passed into the domain of the house of Trencavel in the Middle Ages. Following the intervention of the Crusade against the Albigensians, Simon de Montfort gave the possessions of the Trencavel to Gui de Lévis (1180-1233) in 1219. In 1452, Jeanne de Lévis, daughter of Philippe III de Lévis-Florensac, married Louis Bastet de Crussol (circa 1425-1473), Grand panetier de France.
