Ferrières-en-Gâtinais is a French commune situated in the Loiret département in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Cléry (a tributary of the Loing) and various other small watercourses. The commune has a natural zone of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
Under the Ancien Régime, the parish of Saint-Éloy de Ferrières depended, in ascending hierarchical order, on the doyenné or chrétienté de Ferrières, then on the archidiaconé du Gâtinais and finally on the archevêché de Sens. The abbaye Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul, founded in the 7th century, acquired great influence under the Carolingians. Its abbot, Loup de Ferrières (elected in 840, died 862), was preceptor to the future emperor Charles le Chauve (823–877) and remained his adviser. He was also a great restorer of classical letters and the author of an important correspondence, partially preserved.
