A little history
From the meaning of Ferrière to the discovery of old timber beams and rudimentary tools attributed to the Merovingians, everything combines to recall how greatly the extraction of iron ore conditioned the appearance of the first human settlements in these parts. Without iron, Ferrière would probably never have experienced such development. It was in order to benefit from the resources of the subsoil (iron, lime, stone, pottery clay…), from the swift course of the Solre, but also to guarantee the supply of its strategic border stronghold, that a royal arms manufactory was established in 1715. La machine, as the rural inhabitants of the time called it, brought prosperity to the town.
