Fenain is a French commune, situated in the Nord department (59) in the Hauts-de-France region. It is a town in the former mining basin of Nord-Pas-de-Calais.
A little history
Ancien Régime administrative divisions. The parish of Saint-André de Fenain was part of the province of Hainaut, the diocese of Arras and the deanery of Bouchain, with the Abbaye Saint-Sauveur d'Anchin as the patron of the living. The commune was served by the gare de Fenain on the ligne de Somain à Halluin, brought into service in 1874 by the Compagnie des chemins de fer du Nord-Est, which linked the gare de Somain to the Belgian railway network at the gare de Menin in Belgium, via Orchies, Ascq, Roubaix - Wattrelos, Tourcoing and Halluin, the last station before the border. It made it easier for workers to travel to the faience manufactories of Orchies (Céramique d'Orchies). The station closed in 1950.
