Fay-aux-Loges (pronounced "Failly") is a French commune, situated in the département du Loiret in the région Centre-Val de Loire. Exposed to a degraded oceanic climate, it is drained by the canal d'Orléans, the Cens, the Oussance and various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage comprising two Natura 2000 sites and a natural area of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
Development projects for business zones were the origin of archaeological diagnostic operations carried out by the Institut national de recherches archéologiques préventives. One, at the lieu-dit l'Évangile, led to the discovery of remains of a Gallo-Roman settlement. The other, at la Loge Cognet, made it possible to locate several pits dug into the sand and containing pottery from the first Iron Age, or Hallstatt period. This work also led to the discovery of an installation dating from the end of the Middle Ages, the 15th century, including amongst other things a well, a potter's kiln and a very large number of sherds enabling the ceramic forms produced to be reconstructed.
