Fabrègues [fa.bʁɛ.ɣə] (Fabregas [fa.'βrɛ.ɣo̞s] in Occitan) is a French commune situated in the east of the département of Hérault in the Occitanie region. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, it is drained by the Mosson, the ruisseau du Coulazou, the Aigarelle and various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage, a Natura 2000 site (the "plaine de Fabrègues-Poussan"), a protected area (the "Fabrègues-Madeleine") and four natural zones of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
An archaeological map identifies nineteen sites that were inhabited in the past on the territory of the commune. Its significance was such that in 1872 the prehistorian Gabriel de Mortillet, in his reference chronology, designated as Launacien the period corresponding to the deposit at the lieu-dit Launac. From the beginning of the Iron Age, it has been possible to observe the intense activity of Mediterranean populations. More particularly along the Languedoc coastline, bronze metallurgy experienced great dynamism.
