Écourt-Saint-Quentin, the town

Écourt-Saint-Quentin covers 9.5 km², lies between 35 and 74 m above sea level and had 1,706 inhabitants in the 2023 census.

Écourt-Saint-Quentin is a French commune located in the département of Pas-de-Calais in the Hauts-de-France region. Its inhabitants are called the Écourtois. The commune is a member of the communauté de communes Osartis Marquion.

A little history

The commune was awarded the Croix de Guerre 1914-1918 by decree on 23 September 1920, a distinction also awarded to 276 other communes in Pas-de-Calais. On 24 June 1967, the village was devastated by a tornado that caused destruction along a "trench" one to three kilometres wide. The communes particularly affected were Palluel, Cagnicourt, Saudemont, Oisy-le-Verger, Marquion, Villers-lès-Cagnicourt, Riencourt-les-Cagnicourt and, further away, Pommereuil (the most devastated). The event occurred after a stifling day, with swirling winds of around 200 km/h that originated near Busigny and died out upon hitting the forêt de Mormal.
