A little history
The hill of Écouen is a butte-témoin dominating the plaine de France. Situated between the syncline of Saint-Denis and the anticline of the pays de Bray, it extends to the south-east the valley of Montmorency from which it is separated by the valley of the Petit Rosne. In 632, "Le bon roi Dagobert" made a gift of the land and lordship of Écouen to the basilique Saint-Denis. This offered village was then known as Iticiniscoam.
