A little history
Several discoveries indicate a prehistoric and Celtic occupation of the commune's territory, including several polished stone axes, bronze axes with sockets, heels and wings, fragments of axes, swords and a spear tip, a bracelet and a bronze stag from the La Tène III period. The lieu-dit la Grande Pierre may denote an ancient megalithic site. The ancient occupation of the site may have been linked to a crossing point on the Loir. Around 1050, under the comte d'Anjou Geoffroy Martel, a first château was established at Durtal.
