Divatte-sur-Loire has been, since 1 January 2016, a new French commune born from the merger of the communes of La Chapelle-Basse-Mer and Barbechat in the département of Loire-Atlantique, in the région of Pays de la Loire.
A little history
Following the failure of a project to merge all the member communes of the communauté de communes Loire-Divatte under the new commune scheme, during the course of 2015, La Chapelle-Basse-Mer and Barbechat entered into talks in order to form a single entity, thus reconstituting an administrative unit between the two communes that had persisted until the creation of the commune of Barbechat in 1868. The creation of the commune of Divatte-sur-Loire was thus decided following votes cast by the respective municipal councils on 22 September 2015, a decision ratified by the prefectoral order of 20 October 2015.
