Cysoing [sizwɛ̃] is a French commune situated in the département of Nord, in the region of Hauts-de-France. It is one of the two central towns of a small conurbation of five communes, the unité urbaine de Cysoing, which belongs to the aire urbaine de Lille.
A little history
The history of Cysoing is closely linked to that of its abbaye Saint-Calixte. It is thanks to it that over the centuries the commune prospered and gained a solid reputation throughout the whole of France. The abbey was founded at the end of the 9th century by saint Évrard de Frioul, on the land that his wife, Gisèle, had brought as a dowry. The young woman is the granddaughter of Charlemagne and the sister of Charles le Chauve.
