Cuxac-d'Aude [kyksak dod] (in Occitan Cucçac d'Aude) is a French commune situated in the north-east of the département of Aude in the région of Occitanie. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune forms part of the Narbonnais, a pays encompassing Narbonne and its surroundings, the massif de la Clape and the lagoonal strip of étangs. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, it is drained by the Aude and the Ruisseau Audié.
A little history
Cuxac, formerly known as Cugucianum or Culciacum, had first borne the name of Géminian, under which it was referred to in the tenth century and even earlier. In 940, Rodalde, Bishop of Béziers, gave the church of Sainte-Marie-de-Géminian to Oger, abbot of the monastery of Saint-Pons de Thomières. At the end of the tenth century, the name of Cuxac was added to that of Géminian and eventually prevailed. In 959, the countess Arsinde or Garsinde pledged the estates of Cuxac-du-Narbonnais to two Jewish men. These estates were later redeemed by her children, Raymond, Pierre and Bernard.
