Cuincy [kwɛ̃si] is a French commune situated in the département du Nord and the Hauts-de-France region. Situated three kilometres from the Place d'armes de Douai and 35 kilometres from Lille, Cuincy covers 701 hectares of which 26 hectares are green spaces. The inhabitants of Cuincy are called the Cuincynois.
A little history
In the 13th century, two lordships divided Cuincy between them, Cuincy-Prévot, so named because the lord was prévôt of Douai, and Cuincy-Baudouin, named after a lord of Haynin. Jacques Blondel was lord of Cuinchy-le-Prévôt and Cuinchy-le-Baudouin at the beginning of the 16th century. He rendered great and loyal services under the emperor (Charles Quint), was commissioner of the monstres (military musters) of the gendarmerie on foot and on horseback, and governor of Tournai and the Tournaisis until the age of 70. He always conducted himself faithfully, as did his two brothers, all having fought during the wars of Italy.
