Courcelles-lès-Lens is a French commune situated in the département of Pas-de-Calais in the Hauts-de-France region. Its inhabitants are called the Courcellois. The commune is a member of the communauté d'agglomération Hénin-Carvin.
A little history
Before the French Revolution, Courcelles-les-Lens was the seat of a seigneury. In the 15th century, the holder was Nicolas Carette, known as Bacheler, squire and chamberlain of the king of France Louis XII, lieutenant of the bailli of Tournai and Tournaisis, bourgeois of Tournai on 4 December 1476. His wife was Antoinette Liébart. The town, which was occupied by the German army, suffered during the First World War, with, in addition to the usual after-effects of war, pollution caused by fires at high-risk industrial installations.
