Corneilla-la-Rivière (or Cornellà de la Ribera) is a French commune situated in the north-east of the département of Pyrénées-Orientales, in the region of Occitanie. Historically and culturally, the commune lies within the Roussillon, a former province of the kingdom of France, which existed from 1659 until 1790 and covered the three vigueries of Roussillon, Conflent and Cerdagne. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, it is drained by the Têt, the Comelade and by another watercourse.
A little history
On 10 August 1793, the Combat de Corneilla took place during the guerre du Roussillon. By decree of 6 August 1963, Corneilla-la-Rivière lost several portions of its territory, which were attached to Pézilla-la-Rivière. On 1 January 2025, the commune left the communauté de communes Roussillon Conflent and joined Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole.
