A little history

The commune of Clermont-l'Hérault has been occupied since Protohistory. During the Iron Age (8th to 2nd century BC), Clermont formed, together with La Ramasse, one of the principal oppida of Mediterranean Celtic territory. The current town is a creation of medieval origin, though human presence on its territory dates back to Protohistory. It is situated in a strategic location, at the crossroads of communication routes, on the one hand between the Massif Central and the coast, and on the other hand between the valley of the Rhône and the valley of the Garonne (chemin de Vieille-Toulouse).
