Cléder [kledεʁ] (Kleder in Breton), is a French commune situated in the département of Finistère, in the Bretagne region. At the heart of the Ceinture dorée, the town has both vast agricultural holdings (fields and greenhouses) and a coastal frontage with large sandy beaches and unspoilt nature.
A little history
The parish of Cléder was part of the archdeaconry of Léon falling under the bishopric of Léon and was under the patronage of saint Pierre and saint Ké-Collédoc (saint Quai or alternatively Ké, Collodoc), who died at Cléder in 495 according to Albert le Grand, as did his companion Saint Kérien some years earlier in 490. Saint Ké is said to have come to Armorique, in the Léonnais, to escape the Scots who had invaded his country, with an old servant and a few companions. His final years were devoted to evangelising the inhabitants of these places, where the parish of Cléder subsequently took shape.
