Châtillon-sur-Loire is a French commune situated in the département of Loiret in the région of Centre-Val de Loire. Exposed to a degraded oceanic climate, it is drained by the Loire, the canal latéral à la Loire, the Courcelles, the ruisseau l'éthelin, the Éthelin and various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage made up of two Natura 2000 sites and three natural zones of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
The first mention of the town refers to a fortification in the 10th century. In the 16th century, Protestants were in the majority in Châtillon and had a temple built in 1596. As a result, its history was also marked by the Wars of Religion, as Catherine de Médicis, supported by local Catholic nobles, sent troops to control the region. In the 17th century, Châtillon had the most significant Protestant community in the Giennois.
