A little history
The large village of Châteauneuf developed as a place of exchange and a stopping point on the river route of the Loire. The village was included in the royal domain from the first decades of the Capetians and appears to have been active since at least the early Middle Ages. King Henri Ier founded a fortress or castellum there in the middle of the 11th century, which explains the name of the locality. The writer Maurice Genevoix (1890-1980) lived in Châteauneuf for the greater part of the first period of his life, from his early youth practically until the dawn of his forties.
