Chassenon is a French commune located in the département of Charente, in the région of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Its inhabitants are known as the Chassenonais and the Chassenonaises.
A little history
During the Roman period, Chassenon was an important Gallo-Roman centre situated on the voie d'Agrippa from Saintes to Lyon. In the Middle Ages, it was a former fief of the family de Tryon, in the person of Aymeric de Tryon, knight, in 1318. Between the 10th and 18th centuries, Chassenon was the seat of a viguerie, which administered justice locally. It was then part of the diocese of Limoges, before being attached to the six other vigueries of the comté d'Angoulême, which counted around twenty of them owing to its expansion in the 11th century.
