Champtocé-sur-Loire is a French commune situated in the département of Maine-et-Loire, in the region of Pays de la Loire.
A little history
It is thought that the land was in the hands of the Comte d'Anjou in the 10th century and that a citadel already defended the crossing of the Loire. A fortified castle was in place at least from the 11th century, probably preceding the church, which appears to have been founded by monks from Saint-Florent-le-Vieil. There are numerous chapels, the oldest of which was founded before the end of the 12th century by Maurice de Craon. At the beginning of the 15th century, Marie de Craon, whose family owned the land, married Guy de Laval, baron de Rais, seigneur de Blaison and de Chemillé.
