Châlette-sur-Loing is a French commune situated in the Loiret department in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the canal de Briare, the canal d'Orléans, the Canal du Loing, the Loing, the Bezonde, the Puiseaux, the Solin and various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a natural zone of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
The name of Châlette is cited as early as the beginning of the 9th century (Caderaita), as belonging to the estate of a certain Gile (Gisla), who held property throughout the Gâtinais. She donated it to the abbaye de Gembloux, which her grandson saint Guibert had just founded, a donation endorsed in 946 by a charter of Otton Ier du Saint-Empire. On 26 January 1065, the lord of the borough, Gasbert, gave to the abbaye de Saint-Benoît the church of Châlette and its dependencies, the whole borough, eight arpents of meadow, a fishery and three mills adjoining the church.
