Carhaix-Plouguer, commonly known as Carhaix, Karaez-Plougêr in Breton, is a French commune in the département of Finistère, in the region of Bretagne. It is the chief town of the Poher and forms part of the Argoat. It is one of the most flourishing towns of Gallo-Roman Armorique.
A little history
The region of Carhaix has been occupied from the end of Prehistory, as early as the 5th millennium. The excavation of the site of Kergovo revealed three settlements, two from the early Neolithic and one, almond-shaped, which dates from the transition between the Neolithic and the Bronze Age. In 1999, the preventive excavation carried out ahead of the construction of the southern bypass of Carhaix (route nationale 164) brought to light two protohistoric enclosures on the site of the Kergoutois farm, 2 km south of the town of Carhaix.
