A little history
The region of Candé was occupied during Prehistory, probably from the Neolithic period onwards, as evidenced by the menhirs de Bennefraye, at Freigné. Various objects have been discovered on Candé soil, a hammer-axe in blue schist varnished with perforated quartz, a fragment of a hard-edged axe, a winged axe, two bronze axes, as well as seven axes in polished diorite, discovered in the marais du Mandit, on the banks of the Erdre and at the chemin de la Croix-de-Pierre. In 1860, a hoard of 120 Gaulish staters was also discovered in a field. These discoveries confirm a human occupation at Candé dating back at the latest to La Tène.
