Camiers is a French commune situated in the département of Pas-de-Calais in the région of Hauts-de-France. Its inhabitants are called the Camiérois. It is composed of the village of Camiers, inland, and the seaside resort of Sainte-Cécile-Plage and, to a lesser extent, the beach of Saint-Gabriel, further to the south.
A little history
Camiers lay on the old Roman road linking Boulogne-sur-Mer to Étaples. The first mention of Camiers appears in the cartulary of the abbey of Saint Bertin de Saint-Omer known as the cartulary of Folcuin in 853. The village is mentioned again in a charter of the same abbey in 1026. On 12 May 1894, Cécile de Rocquigny granted power of attorney to her husband, Armand de Rosamel, to sell her lands at Camiers.
