Buzançais covers 58.6 km², lies between 102 and 155 m above sea level and had 4,356 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Buzançais is a French commune situated in the département of Indre, in the région of Centre-Val de Loire. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Indre, the Cité, the Grosse Planche, the Beuvrier, the ruisseau de Gravet and various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage composed of three Natura 2000 sites and six natural areas of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
A number of uncovered structures bear witness to ancient occupation, between the Bronze Age and La Tène Ancienne (at the latest in the 5th century before our era). The site was subsequently abandoned and put under cultivation until the first medieval settlements. The principal inhabited areas of the territory during Antiquity are situated at the lieux-dits Saint-Étienne and Herbigny, where the centres of the principal parishes were maintained until the end of the modern period. From the second half of the 10th century onwards, portable remains and archaeological structures bear witness to a significant medieval occupation.
