Bram, the town
Bram covers 17.7 km², lies between 119 and 165 m above sea level and had 3,233 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Bram [bʁam] is a French commune, situated in the north-west of the département of Aude in the Occitanie region, on the Toulouse-Mediterranean axis between Castelnaudary and Carcassonne. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune forms part of the Lauragais, the former « Pays de Cocagne », linked both to the cultivation of pastel and to the abundance of its produce, dubbed « le grenier à blé du Languedoc ». Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the canal du Midi, the Fresquel and the streams of la Preuille and de Rigal.
A little history
An occupation dated to the Neolithic period has been proved by the presence of typical ceramics during excavations in the commune in 2018. The Vicus Eburomagus is attested in the 4th century and appears under this name on the table de Peutinger. The village was situated at a crossroads on the voie d'Aquitaine. It had a significant wine market and pottery workshops known for their red-varnished céramique sigillée.
