A little history
The Roman road from Tournai to Wervicq-Sud passes through Bousbecque, which proves that the town was already inhabited during the Gallo-Roman period. The seigneury, first known as "de Rume", passed from the de La Lys families to the de la Pontenerie and then, through marriage, to the Ghiselin, at the end of the 15th century. In 1487, Georges Ghiselin, chamberlain to Archduke Maximilien, was beheaded by the revolting people of Bruges. Ogier Ghislain de Busbecq would go on to serve as ambassador of the emperor to the sultan and was a distinguished botanist.
