Bourbriac, the town
Bourbriac covers 71.9 km², lies between 111 and 308 m above sea level and had 2,145 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Bourbriac [buʁbʁijak] (Boulvriag in Breton, Boulbriyâ in Gallo) is a commune in the West of France, the centralising office of a canton in the département des Côtes-d'Armor, in the région of Bretagne.
A little history
Deroch, the legendary king of Domnonée, is said to have granted saint Briac the right to build a monastery near his castle (Coz-Castel). Briac then left his monastery to live in a hermitage (Pénity-Briac). Having travelled to Rome, he returned to die in his monastery on 17 December 627. This account, reported by the hagiographer Albert le Grand in 1636 on the basis of manuscripts that have since disappeared, appears nonetheless to be fictitious.
