Bonny-sur-Loire is a French commune situated in the Loiret département in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Loire, the Cheuille, the Ousson and two small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage composed of three Natura 2000 sites and six natural areas of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
Human presence at the current settlement site of the commune has been attested since the Neolithic period. During Antiquity, Boniacum was situated at the crossroads of three Roman roads. During the Merovingian era, Aunaire, bishop of Auxerre 572–603 or 605, distributed relics of Saint Pierre and Saint Paul to the new churches of his diocese, including that of the village. Under Carolingian administration, Bonny became a parish and was incorporated into the French royal domain.
