Blendecques is a French commune situated in the département of Pas-de-Calais in the Hauts-de-France region. Its inhabitants are known as the Blendecquois. The commune is a member of the communauté d'agglomération du Pays de Saint-Omer.
A little history
The plateau d'Helfaut, the plateau de Longuenesse, and the valley of the Aa which they frame experienced prehistoric and then Gaulish occupation. In the Middle Ages, the commune developed along the edges of the important axis linking Saint-Omer to Thérouanne (which would later become the CD 77), around the windmills and watermills built on the Aa and a Cistercian abbey. These abbeys were numerous in the nearby French Flanders at the end of the 12th century and the beginning of the 13th century.
