A little history
In the Histoire du Hainaut by Jacques de Guyse there is a mythical account of the founding of Beuvrages by Gauls who came to conquer the Belgis and went on to found Valenciennes and the towns of its surroundings. In their intention, and to secure a retreat, they built a fortress, ramparts, towers, a gate and an oppidum to which they gave the name Vallée des Sénonais, but which is today called Valenciennes.
