Bergues, formerly Bergues-Saint-Winoc, is a French commune situated in the département du Nord in the Hauts-de-France region. Historically, the town and its surroundings belonged to the comté de Flandre and to the Southern Netherlands (in Latin, Belgica Regia) and fall within the Flemish linguistic zone. Bergues has been particularly well known since 2008 for having hosted the filming of the film Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis by Dany Boon.
A little history
Beneath the soil of Quaëdypre, Bergues and Wormhout, fossil remains of pachyderms (elephant or mammoth) of the same type as those found at Arques have been unearthed, dating from prehistory. Bergues has had a rich history and was for a long time an important political centre, before the development of Dunkerque somewhat overshadowed it.
