Basse-Goulaine, the town

Basse-Goulaine (Bass-Góleinn in Gallo) is a commune in the west of France, situated in the département of Loire-Atlantique, in the région of Pays de la Loire.
A little history
During the administrative reorganisation of 1789, the parish of Basse-Goulaine became a commune, forming with Saint-Sébastien (the chief town) the third canton of the district of Nantes. In 1793, the population of Basse-Goulaine took the side of the Vendéen insurrection by a large majority, as did that of Saint-Sébastien. The republican troops regained military control of this area at the end of 1793, but it was not until 1796 that the situation returned to more or less normal. For a few years, there was no municipal administration, but only a cantonal administration, covering both communes.
