A little history
The abbaye des Dames de Beaumont declared lands there in 1602. The building known as the "vieux-manoir" is said to have housed King Louis XIV whilst his armies besieged Valenciennes from November 1676 to March 1677. The town was occupied by the German armies from August 1914. At the end of October 1918, the town was the scene of fierce fighting at the conclusion of which the Canadian regiment the 4th Seatforths liberated the town.
