Audruicq is a French commune situated in the département of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France. Its inhabitants are called the Audruicquois. The commune is the seat of the communauté de communes de la Région d'Audruicq.
A little history
Audruicq was founded by the comte de Guînes Baudouin Ier de Guînes in the 11th century. Audruicq was the main town of the pays de Bredenarde, which formed part of the comté de Guînes. It had a castle during the Middle Ages. Between 1137 and 1142, during the difficult succession of Manassès Ier de Guînes, comte de Guînes, Arnould de Ham (Hames-Boucres), tasked with defending the interests of Béatrix de Bourbourg, heiress of Manassès, against the claims of Arnould de Gand, future comte under the name of Arnould Ier de Guînes, took refuge in the château d'Audruicq where he was besieged by Arnould de Gand.
