A little history
In the 14th century and the 15th century the seigneurie d'Auchel belonged to the maison de Bournonville. The territory came under the famille d'Olhain in the 15th century, then under the famille de Béthune in the 18th century. A coal seam was discovered in 1851. During the First World War, the President of the Republic Raymond Poincaré, passing through Auchel and Bruay, launched the rallying call "Produire plus".
