Angles covers 34.3 km², lies between 1 and 22 m above sea level and had 3,115 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Angles is a commune in the Centre-Ouest of France, situated in the département of Vendée, in the région of Pays-de-la-Loire. Administratively attached to the arrondissement des Sables-d'Olonne, Angles is one of the twenty founding communes of Vendée-Grand-Littoral, an intercommunal structure created in 2017 under the name of communauté de communes Moutierrois-Talmondais, resulting from the merger of the Pays-Moutierrois and the Talmondais. With its 3,115 inhabitants (2023 census), it constitutes the second most populous commune, according to the official population figures, behind that of Talmont-Saint-Hilaire.
A little history
Palaeolithic sites (Mousterian) have been identified between the village of Angles and the locality of Moulin de Moricq. The Menhir de Léau had been moved from its original hamlet to the village, but no trace of it remains. The same applies to the Pierre-Levée de Moricq. A significant hoard of bronze objects (7 axes and 3 bronze moulds) was discovered at the locality known as la Ville.
