Ancenis-Saint-Géréon (pronounced [ɑ̃s.ni.sɛ̃.ʒe.ʁe.ɔ̃]) is a new French commune located in the département of Loire-Atlantique, in the Pays de la Loire region, and was created on 1 January 2019 from the merger of the communes of Ancenis and Saint-Géréon.
A little history
Ancenis-Saint-Géréon was born from the project to merge the communes of Ancenis and Saint-Géréon, initially planned for 1 January 2018. Rejected on 27 March 2017 by the municipal council of Saint-Géréon by 12 votes against and 11 in favour, the prefecture of Loire-Atlantique decided that a new vote would have to take place, which prompted the resignation of part of the municipal council of Saint-Géréon in June of the same year. On 23 March 2018, at the second vote proposing the creation of a new commune between Ancenis and Saint-Géréon, the "yes" prevailed in each of the two municipal councils.
