Aigurande, sometimes called Aigurande-sur-Bouzanne, is a French commune situated in the département of Indre, in the région of Centre-Val de Loire. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Bouzanne, the Vauvre and various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage composed of eight natural zones of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
In the Gaulish era, Aigurande stood on the boundary between the territory of the Lémovices and that of the Bituriges Cubes, which later became the boundary between the former dioceses of Limoges and Bourges, then between the Limousin and the Berry, and finally between the départements of Creuse and Indre. Anne-Marie-Louise d'Orléans, the Grande-Mademoiselle, through inheritance from the Bourbon-Montpensier, was Lady of A(i)gurande. This explains the municipal arms, which are the arms of Bourbon. The seigneury of Aigurande was inherited by "Monsieur", brother of Louis XIV of France.
