A little history
A church is mentioned in the 13th century. Of the château situated at the lieu-dit Saint-Méxant, which was the subject of fortification works in 1472, only the dovecote, the enclosure and the moats remained in 1906. The chapel built before 1706 was likewise demolished. This fief was in the 15th century in the hands of a Scottish gentleman, Wastre Vallantin, then passed in the 17th century into the possession of the Poisson de Saint-Maixant family, originally from Aunis.
