Yvré-l'Évêque is a French commune situated in the département of Sarthe in the région of Pays de la Loire, with a population of 4,181 inhabitants (known as Yvréens). The commune forms part of the historic province of Maine, and is located in Haut-Maine (Maine roux).
A little history
La Compagnie des chemins de fer de l'Ouest opened a station on the commune, dedicated solely to passenger services and named Auvours, on 1st June 1854 upon the opening of passenger services on its western line as far as Le Mans. During the Franco-German War of 1870, in the course of the Bataille du Mans (1871), fighting took place on 11th January 1871 on the territory of the commune. These engagements were known as the charge du plateau d'Auvours and were carried out by soldiers of the Armée de Bretagne, an auxiliary army attached to the Armée de la Loire.
