A little history
Installée au bord de la Dive, Mamers est capitale du Saosnois depuis le Xe siècle. Le bourg de Mamers, mentionné pour la première fois aux VIe-VIle siècles dans les vies des ermites saint Rigomer et saint Longis, né d'une villa gallo-romaine, établie aux environs de l'actuelle place Carnot. Un temple gallo-romain dédié au dieu Mars aurait existé au niveau de l'actuelle église St Nicolas et détruit par saint Longis.
