A little history
Avesgaud de Bellesme, bishop of le Mans between 995 and 1035, established himself on an island in 1027, amid the marshes formed by the tributaries of the Huisne, in a castrum firmitate, a fortified castle or "ferté". In the second half of the 11th century, a dynasty of castellans and then lords by the name of Bernard appeared, who remain rather poorly documented. Bernard Ier (fl. 1060, 1083, 1097, whose wife was perhaps a daughter of Nivelon III de Fréteval, and who accompanied Rotrou de Montfort, the youngest son of Rotrou du Perche, on the First Crusade) is presented, along with his brothers Hugues and Gervais, fl.
