A little history
On 25 October 732, it is possible that it was on the territory of the commune, at the hamlet of Moussais (since renamed Moussais-la-Bataille), that the Franks commanded by Charles Martel repelled a raid led by Abd el Rahman, during the bataille de Poitiers. Vouneuil-sur-Vienne welcomed the advances of the French Revolution favourably. It thus planted its arbre de la liberté, a symbol of emancipation. It became the rallying point for all the festivals and the principal revolutionary events, such as the commemorations of the prise de la Bastille or of the founding of the Première République française (22 September 1792).
