Chasseneuil-du-Poitou is a commune in the Centre-West of France, situated in the département of la Vienne in the région of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Its inhabitants are called the Chasseneuillais. Chasseneuil-du-Poitou is home to the southern part (approximately half of the total area) of the parc du Futuroscope and the technopole du Futuroscope.
A little history
Louis Ier, known as le Pieux or le Débonnaire, was born at the villa Cassinogilum, which certain historians identify as Chasseneuil-du-Poitou, on Thursday 16 April 778 during the journey of the Spanish expedition undertaken by his father Charlemagne. His mother, Hildegarde de Vintzgau, gave birth to him and his twin brother Lothaire, who died shortly afterwards, at the villa Cassinogilum whilst the Easter celebrations were being held there. The sole surviving son of Charlemagne, he succeeded him at the head of the empire. He died on 20 June 840 on a river island near Ingelheim am Rhein in Germany.
