Neuville-de-Poitou is a commune in the Centre-West of France, situated around fifteen kilometres to the north-west of Poitiers, in the département of Vienne, the historic and cultural region of Poitou and the administrative region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Its inhabitants are called the Neuvillois. The town is known for its local Sunday morning market, one of the most important in the département.
A little history
During the Hundred Years' War, Neuville suffered from its position on the margins of French and Anglo-Aquitainian territory. Like the whole of Poitou, it came back under English control in 1360. In 1410 the parish was organised and took the name of Notre-Dame de Neuville. Poitou, with its almond trees, its walnut trees and its vines, fed its population.
