Buxerolles is a commune in the Centre-Ouest of France situated in the close northern suburbs of Poitiers, in the département de la Vienne, in the région Nouvelle-Aquitaine. With more than 10,000 inhabitants, Buxerolles is the third largest town in the département after Poitiers and Châtellerault. Its inhabitants are known as the Buxerollois.
A little history
Long made up of hamlets, Buxerolles is today a dense town, the third commune in the département with more than 10,000 inhabitants. In 2004, archaeological digs carried out during the creation of the résidence « le Pas de Saint Jacques » revealed vestiges from several periods. The oldest date from the middle Neolithic period (around 2400 BC), a small necropolis with six burials. Circular pits and post holes attest to an agricultural-type building and therefore to human presence in the early Bronze Age (1800 BC).
