Volvic is a French commune, situated in the département of Puy-de-Dôme in the région of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. A gateway to the chaîne des Puys, Volvic is close to the town of Riom and forms part of the latter's communauté d'agglomération. It also forms part of the aire d'attraction of Clermont-Ferrand.
A little history
The first mention of Volvic is thought to date from the 5th century. Saint Priest, bishop of Clermont, was assassinated and buried there in the 7th century. Volvic was the chief town of the vicomté de Tournoël, a château mentioned in the 10th century and a possession of the comte d'Auvergne, confiscated by Philippe Auguste during the siege of Tournoël in 1213. In 1940, abbé Annéser, curé of Boulange, took refuge in the town of Riom and in the town of Volvic in the free zone with approximately 900 of his parishioners.
