Vivonne is a commune in the Centre-Ouest of France, situated in the département de la Vienne, in the région Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Its inhabitants are called the Vivonnois(es). The commune of Vivonne has held the Village étape label since 2003.
A little history
Vivonne gave its name to a very ancient family from the Poitou, which allied itself with the houses of La Châtaigneraie and de Rochechouart, among whom were François de Vivonne, seigneur de La Châtaigneraie (1520-1547), who died as a result of his wounds following the famous duel against Gui de Chabot Jarnac, who inflicted upon him the celebrated « coup de Jarnac ». Jean de Vivonne (1530-1599), maréchal de France (1585). With his death, the senior branch of this family became extinct. Catherine de Vivonne (1588-1665), who became through marriage the celebrated marquise de Rambouillet. The title of « duc de Vivonne » (title of duc à brevet) was created in 1668 for Louis Victor de Rochechouart de Mortemart.
